Statistics Canada and LabPlus: improving sample management in mobile laboratories
Statistics Canada Statistics Canada is a key institution for the collection and analysis of statistical data on a national scale. Statistics Canada is responsible for the Canadian Health Measures Survey (CHMS). Launched in 2007, this survey collects data on the health of Canadians through physical measurements, blood and urine analyses. It also includes interviews on nutrition, lifestyle and health status.
These data can be used to establish national benchmarks, as well as to highlight undiagnosed health problems. The aim is also to support health policy by identifying the links between risk factors, protective practices and health.
The survey is carried out over a 2-year cycle. It targets people aged 1 to 79 living in the 10 provinces. Participation is voluntary. Participants go to a mobile examination center to collect data.
What were the challenges or issues faced by Statistics Canada prior to this project?
Statistics Canada has chosen LabPlus to implement a LIMS system designed to optimize the management of biological samples collected during surveys. The system will improve the operation of mobile laboratories, while centralizing data for more secure management.
This centralization will enable Statistics Canada to enhance the efficiency of its processes and increase the accuracy of its analyses. By facilitating the collection, tracking and processing of samples, LabPlus will also enhance traceability and compliance with regulatory standards.
